Senate to begin verifying signatures on VP Sara Duterte’s impeachment complaint

The Senate is preparing to verify the signatures on the Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte, which was submitted by the House of Representatives, Senate President Chiz Escudero said.

According to Escudero, the Senate Secretariat will check whether the document contains the required number of wet signatures, as electronic signatures are not allowed for impeachment complaints.

Under the law, e-signatures are only valid for resolutions, proposed bills, and committee reports—but not for complaints, Escudero explained.

However, he clarified that the presence of e-signatures will not affect the impeachment process if at least 102 lawmakers used wet signatures to endorse the complaint.

The verification process has yet to begin, but the Senate is expected to proceed with the review soon.
