Self-proclaimed “owner of the world” blocks Christmas traffic in Davao Oriental

Traffic came to a halt in Barangay San Ignacio, Manay town in Davao Oriental on Christmas Day after a group believed to be part of a cult blocked a public road, alarming motorists and residents in the area.

The incident happened on Dec. 25 while many were celebrating the holiday. The group was led by a man who identified himself as Datu Watawat, also known as “Senior Ruben Hari.” He claimed ownership of the Earth and asserted authority over the road where the blockade was set up.

Viral videos circulating online showed wooden crosses placed across the roadway. Some of the crosses bore the words “WAR” and “GUIDON,” according to witnesses and footage shared on social media. Members of the group were also seen carrying wooden swords while standing along the blocked road.

The leader and his followers claimed they had the right to collect rent from the government, saying the world belonged to them. Their actions caused concern among motorists, many of whom were unable to pass through the area during the blockade.

Due to growing public alarm, personnel from the Manay Municipal Police Station responded to the scene. Police engaged the group in negotiations to prevent further disruption and ensure public safety.

After several rounds of talks, authorities were able to clear the road. Motorists were eventually allowed to pass, restoring the flow of traffic in the area.

No injuries were reported during the incident. Police have not released additional details regarding possible charges or further action related to the road blockage.
