More than 400,000 cases of acute respiratory infections have been recorded across seven provinces in Indonesia as wildfires continue to spread and thick haze blankets parts of the country.
The Health Ministry reported that residents remain at risk from severe air pollution caused by fires that have been burning for months.
Vast areas across the islands of Sumatra, Borneo, and Papua have been scorched, as Indonesia battles its most intense wildfires in 11 years.
In response, the country has continued large-scale firefighting efforts, including waterbombing and cloud-seeding operations, to contain the blazes.
Australia will also join the efforts by deploying a C-130 Hercules aircraft and a Cessna Citation aircraft to support Indonesia’s firefighting operations from November 6 to 12.
