Senator Robin Padilla’s social media post about an unfulfilled project for the Badjao community has gone viral, sparking online discussion and clarification from local officials.
The senator claimed that a project intended to support Badjao families in a certain city has yet to materialize despite previous commitments.
In his post, Padilla expressed disappointment over the lack of progress, stressing that the initiative was meant to uplift indigenous communities often left behind in social programs.
However, he did not specify which city or agency was responsible for the delay, prompting speculation from netizens and local leaders.
Shortly after the post gained traction, Zamboanga City Mayor Khymer Olaso commented on Padilla’s post to clarify the issue.

Olaso firmly stated that Zamboanga City has not received any funding from the senator’s office for the said Badjao project.
He explained that no formal coordination or budget allocation was made by Padilla’s office regarding any initiative related to Badjao welfare in the city.
The mayor’s statement aimed to correct assumptions online and protect the city’s integrity from being unfairly linked to unimplemented projects.
The senator’s office has yet to issue further details about the project’s scope, timeline, or intended beneficiaries.
Meanwhile, citizens and advocacy groups are urging both national and local officials to work together in delivering concrete programs for the Badjao community.
The incident has renewed calls for transparency and coordination between agencies to ensure that promised projects—especially those involving marginalized sectors—are fully implemented and publicly accounted for.
