Veloso Family Appeals for Faster Progress in Case Against Mary Jane’s Recruiters

The family and supporters of Mary Jane Veloso — the Overseas Filipino Worker convicted in Indonesia for drug trafficking — have appealed to the Supreme Court for a faster resolution of her case.

In a letter sent to Court Administrator Ma. Theresa Dolores Gomez-Estoesta by Mary Jane’s legal counsel, her camp urged the Supreme Court to act on the referral of the Nueva Ecija court regarding the order allowing hearings at the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW), where she is currently detained.

They said this move would help in seeking justice and bring peace to Mary Jane and her family.

Mary Jane’s mother likewise appealed to the High Court to take action following repeated delays in her daughter’s scheduled testimony.

It can be recalled that Mary Jane returned to the Philippines last year after spending 14 years in prison in Indonesia, where she was placed on death row.

She was arrested in Yogyakarta in 2010 after authorities discovered 2.6 kilograms of heroin in her luggage.
