Residents of Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro, Philippines including youth groups and members of indigenous communities, held a peaceful rally to denounce terrorism following a recent armed encounter in the province.
The rally was organized in response to the clash between government troops and the New People’s Army in Barangay Cabacao, Abra de Ilog, which occurred on Jan. 1, 2026. Community members said the incident heightened fear and uncertainty among residents in nearby areas.
Participants in the rally openly opposed the presence of the CPP-NPA in Occidental Mindoro, calling on the group to leave the province. Organizers stressed that the demonstration was peaceful and aimed at expressing the collective sentiment of residents affected by armed conflict.
Speakers during the activity said armed encounters disrupt daily life and threaten the safety of civilians, particularly in rural communities. They emphasized that residents want stability and normalcy, especially for young people and indigenous families living in the area.
The rally brought together residents from Barangay Cabacao and nearby communities, highlighting a unified stand against violence. Placards and messages centered on peace, security, and the rejection of armed groups operating in civilian areas.
Community members reiterated their call for an end to armed activities in Occidental Mindoro, saying development and progress are not possible amid fear and instability. They urged all armed groups linked to the recent encounter to cease operations in the province.
Local residents said their participation in the rally reflected a desire to live in a safe and peaceful environment, free from armed conflict and its effects on their communities.
