Singson challenges Marcos, Romualdez to debate

Former Ilocos Sur Gov. Chavit Singson has challenged President Bongbong Marcos and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez to a public debate, saying he is ready to confront them over allegations of corruption in the country.

Singson made the challenge during an emergency press conference, where he claimed that Marcos and Romualdez have links to what he described as ongoing corruption. He said he wants to raise these allegations directly in a face-to-face debate with the two leaders.

According to Singson, he plans to go to Malacañang Palace to formally challenge the president and Romualdez. He said the debate should happen “ASAP,” or as soon as possible.

Singson said that if Malacañang accepts his challenge, he will immediately proceed to the Palace. He did not provide details on the proposed format, moderators, or venue for the debate beyond stating his readiness to appear.

The former governor did not present evidence during the press conference to support his claims. He also did not specify particular acts or cases of corruption, saying these issues would be addressed during the proposed debate.

As of this writing, Malacañang has not issued a response to Singson’s challenge. There was also no immediate comment from Romualdez regarding the allegations or the call for a debate.

The challenge places renewed public attention on political accountability, though it remains unclear whether the president or the former House speaker will accept Singson’s invitation to debate.
