Cagayan de Oro 1st District Rep. Lordan Suan admitted that endorsing the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte could cost him his reelection bid.
Suan acknowledged the backlash from Duterte supporters and expected his political opponents to use his decision against him. He feared that the move might alienate voters, making his campaign for another term more difficult.
Speaking on Tira Brigada on 102.5 Brigada News FM – CdeO, Suan publicly apologized for signing the complaint, explaining that it was not an easy choice but part of his duty as a congressman. He clarified that he was neither threatened nor offered anything in exchange for his endorsement but believed that refusing to sign could be seen as siding with the opposition, potentially affecting his ability to secure resources for his district.
Despite his involvement in the impeachment process, Suan insisted that he was not turning his back on the Duterte family and continued to respect the vice president.
His remarks reflect the political risks tied to controversial decisions, as he now faces the challenge of winning back voter support before the next election.
