Online platforms Reddit and Discord have agreed to designate local representatives in the Philippines.
According to Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) Executive Director Undersecretary Renato “Aboy” Paraiso, the two platforms made the commitment after discussions with the agency aimed at strengthening coordination with Philippine authorities.
The move is intended to provide the government with clear points of contact for concerns involving online threats, child safety, and other activities on digital platforms.
The CICC earlier gave Reddit and Discord 24 hours to designate a resident agent or local representative who can coordinate with authorities and facilitate matters involving Philippine jurisdiction.
The agency also asked the two platforms to explain their safety measures, rapid-response mechanisms, and age-verification or age-assurance systems.
The development comes amid concerns over the use of online platforms to spread harmful content and target minors, particularly following a series of shooting incidents at schools in the Philippines.
