Two soldiers from the 7th Infantry Battalion were killed after being ambushed and shot by two unidentified suspects in Barangay Ladia, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao del Norte, at about 6:10 p.m. on Sept. 23.
The victims were identified as Pfc. Jobert Labuson and Pfc. Johmark Dumaguing, both members of the Bravo Company, 7th Infantry Battalion.
According to a police report, the soldiers were riding a motorcycle when they were followed by a riding-in-tandem. The suspects then opened fire using what police believed was a .45-caliber firearm, based on bullet casings recovered from the crime scene.
The victims were taken to the Cotabato Regional and Medical Center for treatment but later died from their injuries.
The two suspects remained unidentified based on the initial police report.
Police are investigating the shooting, including the circumstances surrounding the ambush and the identities of those responsible.
Authorities have not provided additional details on the motive behind the attack.
