Pope Leo XIV rejects political role after Trump criticism

Pope Leo XIV clarified that he is not a politician and has no intention of engaging in political debates or interfering in the administration of former United States President Donald Trump.

The statement was made by the pontiff while speaking aboard the papal plane, where he addressed remarks directed at him following criticism from Trump.

According to Pope Leo XIV, his primary mission as head of the Catholic Church is to spread the Gospel and promote peace rather than take part in conflicts among national leaders.

He emphasized that his role focuses on spiritual leadership and guiding the faithful, not participating in political disputes or policy debates.

Despite distancing himself from political involvement, the Pope said he will continue speaking out against any form of war. He stressed that opposing war is part of promoting the welfare of humanity and pursuing justice across the world.

The clarification came after Trump publicly criticized Pope Leo XIV, describing him as “weak” on issues related to crime and calling his foreign policy stance “terrible.”

The remarks drew attention to the relationship between religious leadership and political commentary, prompting the Pope to restate his position on remaining outside political affairs.

Pope Leo XIV reiterated that his responsibility centers on faith-based leadership and peace advocacy, noting that his statements against war are intended to support humanitarian values rather than engage in political confrontation.

His comments reaffirmed his commitment to spiritual guidance and peace promotion while maintaining distance from political disputes involving world leaders.
