Pope Leo calls for the preservation of Venezuela’s sovereignty

Pope Leo has called for the preservation of Venezuela’s status as an independent nation.

This comes after the United States launched actions against Venezuela and arrested its president, Nicolas Maduro, along with his wife, over alleged cases.

Following this, U.S. President Donald Trump said that the United States would temporarily take control of Venezuela.

In his Angelus prayer over the weekend, the Holy Father said he has been closely following developments related to the incident.

He appealed for respect for Venezuela’s independence, as well as for human rights and the rule of law, in accordance with the country’s constitution.

The first American pope also stressed that the welfare of the Venezuelan people should prevail above all other considerations.
