Education sector receives highest allocation in 2026 budget

The Department of Education (DepEd) expressed its gratitude following President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s signing of the ₱6.739-trillion General Appropriations Act (GAA) for Fiscal Year 2026.

In a statement, Education Secretary Sonny Angara said the education sector received the largest share of the national budget, amounting to ₱1.35 trillion.

For the first time in Philippine history, the government allocated more than 4 percent of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) to education, aimed at ensuring quality education for Filipino children.

Angara also thanked members of Congress for their swift and strong support for the education sector.

The education chief assured the public that education remains a top priority of the administration.

He added that the agency is ready to achieve its goals and ensure that every family and every Filipino learner has access to quality education.
