Police shot a 53-year-old man in the leg after he allegedly attacked a civilian with an improvised spear and later attempted to assault responding officers on the morning of March 11.
The incident happened past 10 a.m. at the crossing in Barangay Dabong-Dabong, Mailag, Valencia City, Bukidnon
According to a police report, the suspect first attacked a 58-year-old man who was sitting on his sidecar. The assailant used an improvised spear during the attack.
The victim managed to evade the assault but sustained minor injuries.
Police officers assigned to a nearby static post quickly responded to the incident.
Authorities said they attempted to calm the suspect and issued warnings for him to stop.
However, the suspect allegedly ignored the warnings and continued trying to attack the responding officers.
Due to the imminent threat, police fired their weapon and shot the suspect in the leg to neutralize him.
After the shooting, authorities recovered an improvised spear and a knife with a sheath from the suspect’s possession.
Both the injured civilian and the suspect were immediately transported to a hospital for medical treatment.
Police said both individuals are now in stable condition.
Authorities have not released additional details as the investigation into the incident continues.
