The Philippine National Police (PNP) has launched a full-scale investigation into an alleged hazing incident at the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA), following orders from PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr.
The investigation is being led by PNP Deputy Chief for Administration Lt. Gen. Bernard Banac, with the Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management serving as the lead unit. The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and the PNP Health Service are also assisting to ensure a fair and thorough probe.
The case stemmed from a follow-up operation conducted by CIDG Cavite after receiving reports of alleged physical abuse inside the academy. Authorities arrested individuals believed to be involved and seized evidence that will undergo forensic examination.
As an immediate measure, all activities at the PNPA were temporarily suspended to allow investigators to proceed and to ensure the safety of cadets.
Initial reports showed that 22 Fourth Class cadets sustained injuries after allegedly being subjected to hazing by three Third Class cadets on April 3, 2026. The injuries are expected to heal within approximately 14 days.
The three suspects are now in CIDG custody and are facing charges for violating the Anti-Hazing Act of 2018.
Investigators are also examining possible previous hazing incidents as part of efforts to hold all responsible individuals accountable.
The PNP has ordered the strict implementation of command responsibility, including holding officers accountable for lapses in supervision.
Activities at the PNPA are scheduled to resume on April 11 with stricter monitoring and control measures in place.
Nartatez stressed that hazing has no place in the PNP and assured the public that there will be no cover-up, adding that those found guilty will face the full force of the law.
