PHIVOLCS monitors Mt Bulusan eruption

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) continues to monitor the condition of the Bulusan volcano in Sorsogon after it erupted on Monday morning.

According to PHIVOLCS, the phreatic eruption of the volcano began at 4:36 a.m. (April 28, 2025) and lasted until 5 a.m.

The volcano’s smoke plume reached a height of 4.5 kilometers.

PHIVOLCS warned of a 4km permanent danger from the volcano.

The agency has also extended continuous monitoring of the condition of the volcano and reminded residents and local governments to be vigilant.

The alert level in the area has been raised to Level 1.

Mt. Bulusan is the fourth most active volcano in the country following Mayon, Taal and Kanlaon.
