Malacañang said it is still too early to issue any comment regarding reports about the possible formation of a new UniTeam alliance for the 2028 national elections.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro made the statement after former Sen. Antonio Trillanes raised the idea of a potential alliance between supporters of former Vice President Leni Robredo and supporters of the Marcos camp. Trillanes suggested that such a coalition could be formed to defeat the Duterte camp in the next election cycle.
Castro said the proposal has not been discussed or mentioned to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., and as a result, the Palace has no official position on the matter.
She emphasized that the administration is not yet in a place to provide any response to speculation surrounding political alliances that may emerge ahead of 2028.
Castro also noted that Malacañang cannot give any comment at this time on whether the Marcos administration would be open to working with individuals or groups that were previously part of the opposition or who ran against Marcos during the 2022 elections.
The Palace maintained that there have been no official talks or developments related to the rumored alliance, and no guidance has been issued from the President regarding the matter.
The idea of a new UniTeam has recently circulated following Trillanes’ remarks, but Malacañang reiterated that it remains premature to address the issue publicly.
For now, the Palace continues to withhold comment as discussions about possible political coalitions for the 2028 elections remain speculative.
