The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned that the country has yet to experience the peak of summer heat despite already scorching temperatures.
According to PAGASA, the easterlies continue to drive the extreme heat and high heat index levels across various regions. On Thursday, heat index values are expected to reach 41 to 42°C in Metro Manila and possibly spike to 45°C in Tuguegarao, Cagayan.
A total of 28 areas nationwide are projected to hit “danger” levels, with heat indices ranging from 42 to 51°C. The most affected regions include Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, and parts of the Visayas.
PAGASA cautioned that the heat could intensify in the coming weeks and months as the dry season continues.
In light of the rising heat, PAGASA advised the public to stay hydrated, wear light clothing, and avoid unnecessary outdoor exposure during peak sunlight hours.
