A deadly shootout early Wednesday morning in Tabuk City, Kalinga left three men dead, according to a report from the Police Regional Office-Cordillera.
The incident occurred at 6:30 a.m. in Purok 7, San Julian, where authorities identified the victims as Santos Calsiyao, Tokar Calsiyao, and Leo Palat Calsiyao, all residents of Basao, Dilag, Tabuk City.
Initial investigation revealed that a gunfight broke out between the victims and unidentified suspects in the vicinity of the residence of Barangay Kagawad Cleve Dumaguing, who belongs to the Biga Tribe. The confrontation escalated and extended to the northern part of the area, where the three men were fatally shot.
Recovered from the crime scene were two M16 rifles and one shotgun, though it remains unclear who owned the firearms.
Police have not released any information about the identity or motive of the suspects, who reportedly fled the scene after the exchange of gunfire. Hot pursuit operations are ongoing to track down those responsible.
Authorities have yet to confirm whether the barangay official whose home was near the incident is in any way involved or was merely a bystander.
