Sen. Robin Padilla called on the government to prioritize improving transportation in the Bicol Region before proceeding with its planned rocket launch in 2027.
Padilla said that while he supports the government’s space program, addressing transportation concerns in Bicol should come first.
He said the government should focus on improving travel in the region, including the construction of a bullet train to provide faster and more efficient transportation.
The senator also raised concerns over recurring power outages in Bicol and Camarines Norte.
According to Padilla, a power plant project in the area has remained unfinished because of what he described as a slow permit approval process.
He urged the government to speed up the approval of energy-related projects to help strengthen electricity supply in the provinces.
Padilla said improving transportation and energy infrastructure would provide more immediate benefits to residents while supporting regional development.
His remarks came as the government continues preparations for its planned rocket launch in 2027.
The senator emphasized that while the space program is a positive initiative, existing transportation and power issues affecting communities should be addressed alongside other national development priorities.
Padilla’s statement highlighted the need for infrastructure improvements that could ease travel and help ensure a more reliable power supply in affected areas.
He reiterated his appeal for faster processing of permits for energy projects, saying this would help address electricity concerns that have affected parts of the Bicol Region and Camarines Norte.
