China’s preparations for possible Taiwan attack reportedly delayed

China’s military preparations for a possible use of force against Taiwan have reportedly been delayed by Chinese President Xi Jinping’s anti-corruption campaign.

According to several US officials cited by Reuters, investigations and the removal of senior military officials have affected the readiness of the People’s Liberation Army, or PLA.

Xi has long been associated with a target for the PLA to be ready by 2027 for a possible military operation against Taiwan.

However, US officials stressed that the 2027 target refers to military readiness and does not mean China is scheduled to invade Taiwan that year.

Sources also said Beijing may wait for the outcome of Taiwan’s 2028 election before considering its next steps regarding the island.
