More than 20,000 Catholics joined the Penitential Walk and Holy Sacrifice of the Mass organized by the Archdiocese of Davao on Saturday, according to the Davao City Police Office (DCPO).
The peaceful procession, which passed through major streets in Davao City, served as a public expression of faith and a collective prayer to end corruption in the country.
After the walk, a Holy Mass was celebrated at San Pedro Cathedral, led by Archbishop Romulo Valles, the former president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).
In his homily, Archbishop Valles urged Filipinos to treat corruption as a shameful act once again, emphasizing moral responsibility and integrity in both public service and daily life.
The event marked the Archdiocese of Davao’s largest religious gathering in recent years, highlighting the Church’s continuing call for ethical governance and accountability in the Philippines.
Police reported no major incidents during the procession, noting that participants remained orderly throughout the event.
The Archdiocese said the walk was not just a religious activity but also a moral reminder to promote honesty and justice in society.
