Typhoon Tino (Kalmaegi) swept through Bohol on Tuesday, November 4, forcing the evacuation of more than 43,000 families, toppling power lines, and leaving one fatality, but authorities reported no major structural damage.
Anthony Damalerio, head of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), said a 52-year-old barangay tanod from Barangay Danao, Panglao town, died on Monday after a coconut tree fell on him.
The victim was attempting to cut the tree for safety when the accident happened and was pronounced dead on arrival at Gov. Celestino Gallares Medical Center.
As of Wednesday morning, Damalerio reported that 43,303 families had evacuated to safer areas due to heavy rains and strong winds.
Several communities also experienced power outages caused by toppled electric lines.
Meanwhile, authorities continue to monitor flood- and landslide-prone areas as Typhoon Tino moves westward across the Visayas.
