Davao City 1st District Rep. Paolo “Pulong” Duterte criticized the upcoming House investigation into the controversial Dolomite Beach project in Manila, calling it politically motivated.
The lawmaker was responding to ACT Teachers Rep. Antonio Tinio’s call to hold former President Rodrigo Duterte accountable for the project, which was launched during his administration.
According to Congressman Duterte, some members of the House appear to be using the issue for political gain rather than genuine public service. The investigation is set to begin on November 17.
“If the true goal of the House is accountability, it should also review past budgets and not focus only on projects from the previous administration,” Duterte said.
He emphasized that congressional inquiries should be fair and factual to avoid being seen as politically driven.
The Dolomite Beach project, part of the Manila Bay rehabilitation program, has long faced public criticism over its cost and environmental impact. However, supporters maintain that it improved cleanliness and boosted tourism along the bay.
Duterte’s statement adds to the ongoing debate over whether the investigation is about transparency or political rivalry ahead of the 2025 midterm elections.
