Nearly 400,000 affected by Mindanao shearline floods

Nearly 400,000 individuals have been affected by flooding triggered by a shearline in parts of Mindanao, according to government data.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development said 372,485 individuals, equivalent to about 94,000 families, were affected in the Davao Region and CARAGA.

Of the total number, 8,419 families remain inside evacuation centers as floodwaters continue to impact several communities.

Authorities also reported damage to residential properties. At least 19 houses were declared totally damaged, while 29 others sustained partial damage due to the flooding.

The DSWD said it continues to provide assistance to affected residents. As of the latest report, the agency has extended aid amounting to P18.7 million.

The assistance includes the distribution of family food packs to displaced residents, particularly those staying in evacuation centers.

Local officials continue to monitor conditions in flood-affected areas as response operations remain ongoing.

The shearline, which occurs when cold and warm air masses meet, has brought heavy rains to parts of Mindanao, resulting in flooding in low-lying communities.

Authorities have not reported additional major infrastructure damage as of the latest update but said assessments are continuing.

The DSWD assured affected families that relief efforts will continue while coordination with local government units remains in place to address immediate needs.

Residents in affected areas are advised to stay alert for further weather advisories as weather disturbances continue to influence conditions in parts of the region.
