The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) denied claims that it has started reviewing Darryl Yap’s controversial film Pepsi Paloma.
In an official statement, the MTRCB clarified that the review process has not yet begun due to missing required documents from the film’s distributor.
According to Atty. Paulino Cases Jr., chairperson of the MTRCB Hearing and Adjudication Committee, the necessary certifications from the Regional Trial Court, Department of Justice, and the Office of the City Prosecutor have yet to be submitted. Without these, the review process cannot proceed.
The MTRCB assured the public that all films undergo a strict review process in compliance with Presidential Decree No. 1986, ensuring that they meet the required standards.
Meanwhile, MTRCB Chairperson Lala Sotto-Antonio is expected to inhibit from the film’s review due to her family ties to Vic Sotto, who has been linked to the Pepsi Paloma case.
Previously, the court partially granted a petition ordering the removal of online teasers promoting the film.
