A majority of Filipinos remain satisfied with the performance of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), despite recent calls from Rep. Kiko Barzaga to abolish the agency.
According to the Tugon ng Masa survey, 75% of respondents said they were satisfied with the PCG’s work over the past three months, while 4% expressed dissatisfaction.
The PCG also recorded a 71% trust rating, which the study said confirms strong nationwide support for the agency—especially in coastal regions where residents more often witness and feel the impact of its operations.
However, the survey noted a significantly higher distrust rating from the Davao Region, reaching 16%.
Davao is known as the bailiwick of the Duterte family, including Vice President Sara Duterte and Acting Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte, who have previously questioned the government’s policy in addressing China’s actions in the West Philippine Sea.
