Senator Rodante Marcoleta has recommended summoning former Ilocos Sur governor Chavit Singson to the next Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing.
Marcoleta said it would be appropriate for Singson to testify since he had already made public statements regarding flood control projects. The lawmaker cited Singson’s earlier press conference in San Juan, where he disclosed information on the matter.
Singson previously alleged that flood works contracts in Ilocos Norte had been awarded to companies linked to the Discaya couple. According to him, the connections raised concerns about possible ghost projects in the province.
In line with these revelations, Singson also urged the Independent Commission for Infrastructure to prioritize its investigation into projects located in the President’s political stronghold.
The committee has been conducting inquiries into irregularities involving public infrastructure contracts. With Marcoleta’s proposal, senators may now deliberate on whether to officially invite Singson to appear in the next session.
The issue has drawn national attention because of its implications on transparency and accountability in government-funded projects. Lawmakers said further testimony could provide additional insight into how infrastructure funds were allocated and managed in Ilocos Norte.
If Singson is called to testify, it could mark a critical development in the Senate inquiry and may test the administration’s stance on corruption allegations tied to flood control projects.
The Blue Ribbon Committee has yet to release a schedule for the next hearing.
