Malacañang open to Zaldy Co, Ombudsman talks on flood projects

Malacañang said the government is open to any step that would help uncover the truth behind alleged anomalous flood control projects, including a reported plan by former lawmaker Zaldy Co to communicate with the Office of the Ombudsman.

The statement followed a report by the Department of the Interior and Local Government that Co had expressed willingness to speak with the Ombudsman. The Ombudsman said it is prepared to provide the necessary protection should Co’s statements contribute to the ongoing investigation into the questioned flood control projects.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro clarified that the Ombudsman has the sole authority to determine whether such discussions will proceed and what rules or conditions will apply.

Castro said the President’s priority is for the full truth to be revealed and for anyone involved in irregularities related to flood control projects to be held accountable.

She added that Malacañang has not received any information indicating that Co intends to speak directly with the President or any member of the administration, aside from the reported communication with the Ombudsman.
