Maa-Magtuod flyover in Davao City now 84% complete

The Department of Public Works and Highways in Davao Region (DPWH-Davao) announced that the Maa-Magtuod Flyover project in Davao City has reached 84.3 percent completion.

According to DPWH-Davao, remaining works include construction of micro piles, mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) retaining walls, drainage systems, concrete railings, parapets, and a 300-millimeter-thick four-lane road. The agency is also completing road widening and the installation of solar-powered streetlights.

James Lee Arietta from the DPWH-Davao Planning and Design Division said the flyover is expected to be passable by December. He noted that efforts are focused on clearing electrical poles and telecommunications utilities to open approaches leading to the flyover.

The agency reported that 30 electrical posts have already been relocated, with only five remaining. Of 16 telecommunications utilities, 11 have been transferred. Arietta added that all materials for the remaining work are already on site, and construction of concrete railings is being fast-tracked.

The Maa-Magtuod Flyover earlier drew attention from DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon, who questioned the delay in its completion and called for an investigation into the project’s progress.

Once completed, the flyover is expected to ease traffic congestion in Davao City and improve travel between the city’s southern and downtown areas.
