LTFRB: No double fare for overweight passengers

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has issued a warning to public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers and operators who charge overweight passengers double fare.

This comes after the agency received multiple complaints from commuters who claimed they were being forced to pay more due to their weight.

LTFRB Chairperson Teofilo Guadiz emphasized that passengers should be charged a standard fare regardless of their size. He said the practice of charging extra is not only illegal but also a clear act of discrimination.

The LTFRB reminded all drivers and operators that public transportation should treat everyone equally and with respect. The agency warned that violators may face penalties including fines, suspension, or even the cancellation of their franchise.
