The legal battle between actor Kim Soo Hyun and YouTube channel ‘Garoseyo Research Institute’ (GaSeYeon) escalates as the actor’s agency, Gold Medalist, files another criminal complaint.
On March 24, Gold Medalist, through its legal representatives L.K.B & Partners, announced that they had submitted additional charges against GaSeYeon’s operator, Kim Se Yeol, accusing him of blackmail. The agency previously reported the channel on March 20 for allegedly sharing unauthorized photos of Kim Soo Hyun during a livestream, citing violations under the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes.
Despite the complaint, GaSeYeon re-posted the same images the following day, prompting the agency to take further legal steps.
Serious Allegations and Legal Response
Gold Medalist stated that GaSeYeon’s actions reflect blatant disregard for the law and ongoing investigations. The agency emphasized that the YouTube channel not only continued posting unauthorized content but also attempted to blackmail the actor.
During livestreams on March 21 and 22, GaSeYeon allegedly threatened to release damaging videos of Kim Soo Hyun unless Disney+ canceled the release of his upcoming drama Knock Off. Additionally, the channel made false claims linking the actor to the notorious ‘Nth Room’ case, a criminal scandal involving illegal exploitation.
Gold Medalist dismissed the allegations, stating that no such videos exist and condemning GaSeYeon’s tactics as severe criminal offenses. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Kim Soo Hyun’s reputation and taking swift legal action against any defamatory actions.
What’s Next in the Legal Battle?
The agency’s legal representatives confirmed that authorities are investigating the matter, and further action will be taken against GaSeYeon’s continued violations. Legal experts suggest that if convicted, Kim Se Yeol could face severe penalties under South Korea’s defamation and cybercrime laws.
Kim Soo Hyun has yet to personally comment on the issue, but his agency assures fans that it is doing everything necessary to combat false allegations. The case highlights growing concerns over online defamation and blackmail, particularly against high-profile figures in the entertainment industry.
With tensions rising, industry watchers expect the legal battle to intensify as authorities crack down on malicious online content. Gold Medalist has vowed to pursue justice to the fullest extent of the law, ensuring that those responsible are held accountable.
