The Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) is set to resume its hearings next week.
At the same time, the commission continues to review and finalize the rules for the proceedings, particularly the request to livestream the sessions.
In an interview, ICI Executive Director Atty. Brian Hosaka said they are carefully balancing the public’s call for transparency and the need to protect the rights of individuals who may appear before the commission.
While transparency is important, Hosaka emphasized that they must also safeguard human rights, including the right to due process.
He also noted that they want to avoid self-incrimination and “trial by publicity.”
Hosaka added that livestreaming may create complications if the names of certain individuals are mentioned during the hearing, especially if those involved are not immediately given the chance to defend themselves.
For now, Hosaka said the ICI’s priority is finalizing the livestreaming guidelines and procedural rules of the investigation.
