The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said heat index readings in some parts of the country could exceed 52 degrees Celsius from the last week of February through June 2027.
The agency expects hotter and more humid weather during those months, with some areas potentially reaching the extreme danger level. PAGASA warned that exposure to such heat could cause heat stroke and other health risks.
The projected conditions are linked to a possible strong El Niño, which may continue through the first half of 2027. The weather phenomenon could also affect the agriculture and fishing sectors, according to the agency.
Meanwhile, nine areas recorded danger-level heat index readings of 42 C to 51 C on Nov. 4.
PAGASA said cooler weather remains possible during the Christmas season. However, it does not expect minimum temperatures to drop as low as those recorded during the previous year because of the El Niño phenomenon.
The forecast covers the period from late February to June 2027, while the nine areas cited by PAGASA were already experiencing danger-level heat on Nov. 4. The agency also noted that the expected El Niño could influence conditions during the first half of next year overall.
