Huge 14.7-foot crocodile caught in Palawan

A 14.7-foot crocodile was captured by residents in Sitio Marabahay, Bataraza, Palawan after being suspected of attacking pets in the area. Locals believe the reptile may be responsible for the reported disappearance of about 15 dogs, prompting close monitoring and eventual capture.

Authorities from the 2nd Special Operations Unit – Maritime Group confirmed the recovery and turnover of the crocodile. It was handed to the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development for proper handling as required by wildlife protocols.

The crocodile was later transported to Puerto Princesa City for medical attention. Wildlife staff noted that the animal sustained deep wounds during the capture, which caused severe weakness and required immediate veterinary care. Specialists from the Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center are currently attending to its condition.

Officials have not confirmed whether the crocodile was indeed behind the missing dogs, though residents insist the sightings and pet losses began around the same period. Wildlife personnel are expected to observe the animal further and assess its health and behavior.

This is not the first time a crocodile has been recovered in the area. Communities near coastal and mangrove zones in Palawan have reported occasional encounters, often leading to reminders from authorities to maintain caution and report wildlife sightings quickly.

Local officials continue to urge residents to avoid attempting to capture crocodiles on their own due to the danger involved, and instead coordinate with environmental agencies for proper intervention.
