Gensan official defends city amid Batang Pinoy lanyard issue

A City Hall executive denied claims criticizing the local government after a viral post showed an athlete using plastic twine instead of an official lanyard.

City Administrator Shandee Llido-Pestaño quickly clarified responsibilities and stressed that the accusations unfairly target General Santos City without proper basis.

The official emphasized that athletes already receive allowances they can use for small incidental needs including inexpensive identification accessories during events nationwide.

Earlier posts circulated online alleging that the city neglected its delegates by failing to provide necessary support such as ID lanyards.

The viral message accused the local leadership of embarrassing the youth participants by allowing them to use improvised replacements during competition.

Llido-Pestaño explained that the Philippine Sports Commission handles ID production and distribution, including lanyards funded under the national agency budget.

She added that hosting a large-scale sports event sometimes involves delays which should not immediately lead to suspicion of corruption issues.

The local government will continue coordinating closely with PSC to secure proper logistics for all competing athletes throughout the week-long event.

Officials expect the clarified responsibilities to reduce misinformation and prevent unnecessary attacks against hosting partners working under strict schedules.

The city aims to build stronger public support by improving communication while ensuring fair treatment for youth athletes joining national programs.

Leaders believe a united community will help General Santos City showcase successful events that strengthen trust and highlight sporting excellence.
