Families of drug war and extra-judicial killing victims ask the Supreme Court (SC) to disbar Former President Rodrigo Duterte.
The petitioners cited conduct unbecoming a lawyer and violations of the Code of Professional Responsibility and Accountability as grounds for the disbarment case.
Together with their counsel the petitioners asked the SC to strip Duterte of with his license as a lawyer when he disregarded the rule of law and ethical standards upon admitting that he led a death squad, encouraged violence and pushed for extra judicial killings.
Karapatan Secretary General Cristina Palabay said the disbarment case against Duterte is very relevant as the former president was instrumental in destroying dignity of ordinary Filipinos.
“Spare us from Duterte’s further antics and unabashed demagoguery. He degrades our public discourse on human and people’s rights, but much, much worse, he attacks and seeks to destroy the human dignity of ordinary Filipinos.” Palabay said
Human rights group claimed Duterte’s drug war resulted to the death of almost 30,000 individuals.
Prior to this, Vice President Sara Duterte said he might get his father as legal counsel if the impeachment complaints against her push through.
Vice President Duterte is also facing disbarment cases before the SC, one of which was filed by disbarred lawyer himself Presidential Adviser on Poverty Alleviation Larry Gadon.
