The Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced this afternoon the passing of its former spokesperson and Director IV, James Jimenez.
In a statement, Comelec said Jimenez served the commission for the longest time and was also the youngest government spokesperson at the time of his appointment.
He was described as the “face” and “steady voice” of the commission, explaining the electoral process and defending democratic institutions.
Amid various electoral cycles, Jimenez stood on the frontlines of public information and served as a bridge for communication.
He also championed accuracy, transparency, and accessibility within the office.
Through these efforts, he helped strengthen public trust in the electoral process.
In closing, Comelec expressed its condolences to Jimenez’s loved ones.
The agency also recognized the legacy he left in public service and his contributions to election transparency and voter education.
Jimenez passed away at the age of 52 and was supposed to celebrate his birthday on February 14.
