Finance Sec. Recto expresses confidence in Commissioner Mendoza’s leadership at BIR

Finance Secretary Ralph Recto commended outgoing Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Romeo “Jun” Lumagui Jr. for his leadership, as Department of Finance (DOF) Undersecretary Charlito “Charlie” Mendoza assumes the post as the new BIR Commissioner.

In a statement, Recto described Lumagui as a “fearless leader” who ensured a stable revenue flow for the public and spearheaded reforms in the country’s tax system.

He noted that under Lumagui’s leadership, the BIR became stronger and more reliable.

At the same time, Recto expressed confidence that the bureau is in good hands, saying that Commissioner Mendoza will continue to uphold the same integrity and excellence.

He added that under Mendoza’s leadership, he is confident that the BIR will surpass its revenue targets.

Finally, Recto said that while the DOF will miss Mendoza, he believes the BIR needs him more now than ever.
