Father kills son over heated motorcycle dispute

A 24-year-old man was killed by his own father during a heated argument in Naga City, Cebu.

The victim, Christian, and his father, Boy Basalo, 45, both construction workers, had a long-standing strained relationship reportedly worsened by Basalo’s separation from his wife.

According to Romualdo, the suspect’s brother, the father and son had a physical fight a month earlier at their construction site. On the day of the incident, Christian visited his grandparents to pick up his motorcycle, but his father intervened, sparking a verbal altercation.

The argument escalated when Basalo struck Christian in the neck with a bolo. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Christian was declared dead on arrival.

Basalo admitted to the crime, saying, “I know what I did was wrong,” but he expressed frustration with their troubled relationship.
