Police arrested a 45-year-old farmer after serving a search warrant at his residence in Barangay Kogon, Lezo, Aklan earlier today.
Authorities recovered a .38 caliber revolver, five rounds of ammunition, and two live 12-gauge shotgun shells during the operation.
Police Lieutenant Zoyla Hilario, Deputy Chief of the Lezo Municipal Police Station, led the operation against the suspect known as alias Dongdong.
Hilario said police acted on reports from residents claiming the suspect frequently discharged a firearm within the community.
She added that search warrants are issued after validation of information and verification of the suspect’s alleged illegal activities.
The officer also revealed the suspect may have previous cases, possibly involving serious offenses, though authorities are still confirming details.
Police urged residents in Lezo to voluntarily surrender unlicensed firearms to avoid legal consequences and ensure community safety.
Hilario emphasized that authorities will continue implementing search operations against individuals suspected of illegally possessing firearms in the municipality.
The suspect refused to give a statement and remains detained at the Lezo Municipal Police Station following his arrest.
Authorities are preparing charges for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Law.
