Envoys condemn China’s harassment at Escoda Shoal

Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea, Commodore Jay Tarriela, expressed gratitude to several foreign envoys who voiced support for the Philippines following the incident involving three Filipino fishermen.

In a post on X, Australian Ambassador Marc Innes-Brown said Australia is concerned over the aggressive actions of the China Coast Guard against Filipino fishermen.

Canadian Ambassador David Hartman also expressed concern over the incident, saying disputes should be resolved peacefully and in accordance with international law.

Meanwhile, US Ambassador MaryKay L. Carlson said China’s use of water cannons against the Philippines endangers the lives of fishermen as well as their livelihoods.

Following these statements, Tarriela thanked the officials for their support.

The three Filipino fishermen sustained injuries and bruises after being blasted with water cannons by China near Escoda Shoal. Two Filipino fishing boats also suffered significant damage due to the high-pressure water cannons used by China.
