PNP still studying whether to follow AFP in rejecting ceasefire with CPP-NPA

The Philippine National Police (PNP) said it is still holding discussions on whether it will also declare a ceasefire during the Christmas season.

This comes after the New People’s Army (NPA) announced the implementation of a ceasefire for Christmas and New Year.

According to PNP Public Information Office Chief PBGen. Randulf Tuaño, meetings among PNP leadership are ongoing regarding the matter.

Earlier, Department of National Defense Assistant Secretary Arsenio R. Andolong said that the military’s mandate is “not subject to pause,” meaning the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will continue supporting the PNP in maintaining peace and order during the holiday season.

Andolong also called on the remaining NPA members to refrain from violence and to choose the proper path toward peace and development.
