Malacañang has recognized the significance of the EDSA People Power Revolution in Philippine history, even though its anniversary was not declared a regular holiday this year.
In a press briefing, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro said that the mass protest is part of the country’s history and can never be erased.
She stressed that what happened during that time, as well as the courage shown by Filipinos, will never be forgotten.
It can be recalled that during the EDSA People Power Revolution, the late former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. was ousted from office, and the Marcos family left Malacañang Palace.
In 2023, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. moved the February 25 special non-working day to February 24 as part of the administration’s holiday economics policy.
In the succeeding years, February 25 has no longer been included in the list of holidays under the younger Marcos’ administration.
