DTI: No price freeze implemented yet

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) clarified that it has not implemented any price freeze despite Malacañang’s declaration of a national energy emergency.

In a statement, the DTI said the supply and prices of basic commodities remain stable following the issuance of Executive Order (EO) No. 110.

The order, which aims to protect the domestic oil supply, is a measure to address potential disruptions in the global oil supply chain.

It also activates the Unified Package for Livelihoods, Industry, Food, and Transport (UPLIFT) Program, which seeks to provide subsidies for the transport and agricultural sectors.

The DTI explained that by stabilizing prices, the government is helping prevent inflationary pressures that could lead to a price freeze.

Meanwhile, even without a formal price freeze in place, the agency said its consumer protection teams are already on heightened alert.
