The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has explained its decision to shut down a care facility operated by vlogger BenchTV, following public criticism of the agency’s action.
In a video statement, DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian said the agency is not questioning the vlogger’s good intentions in providing shelter to those in need.
However, he stressed that good intentions alone are not enough.
Gatchalian emphasized that anyone who wants to help must still go through the proper process.
He pointed out that BenchTV’s facility was operating without a license, which he said poses safety risks.
The secretary explained that it is the DSWD’s responsibility to regulate shelters and ensure compliance with established standards and guidelines.
Meanwhile, Gatchalian said the department is already assisting BenchTV in securing the necessary license.
He also assured the public that there is no need to worry about the 12 individuals staying at the facility, as they are currently under proper care while the licensing process is being completed.
