MARINA assures no fare increase on Zamboanga, Basilan, and Sulu routes

There will be no fare increase on routes to and from Zamboanga, Basilan, and Sulu.

This was assured by the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) despite the temporary suspension of all passenger fleets of Aleson Shipping Lines following the sinking of MV Trisha Kerstin 3.

MARINA explained that although shipping fares are deregulated under Republic Act 9295, or the Domestic Shipping Development Act, fare hikes are strictly prohibited during periods affected by maritime disasters.

To address the limited availability of sea vessels on these routes, the agency has already issued a relaxation order.

Under this order, sailing schedules will be made flexible to ensure continuous transportation while keeping trips affordable and safe for passengers on the affected routes.
