DOT suspends some travel near Mayon Volcano amid unrest

The Department of Tourism (DOT) has advised travelers to closely monitor the activity of Mayon Volcano and reconfirm their bookings before proceeding with their trips.

This comes after the volcano’s recent unrest, which caused ashfall in several parts of Albay.

The DOT has also suspended non-essential travel in areas surrounding the volcano.

Travelers are urged to follow official advisories from PHIVOLCS, local government units, and the tourism department.

According to the agency, ongoing hazards include lava effusion, rockfall events, volcanic earthquakes, and pyroclastic density currents, all of which are affecting nearby communities and tourism sites.

The DOT emphasized that the safety and welfare of tourists and tourism workers remain the top priority amid the situation.
