The Department of Energy (DOE) said it is not closing its doors on proposals to suspend, reduce, or remove the Value-Added Tax (VAT) on electricity.
The agency emphasized that lowering electricity costs remains its primary mandate, noting that such measures could help ease the burden on consumers.
In a statement, the DOE said it supports initiatives that would reduce expenses for Filipino households and businesses, in line with its goal of ensuring affordable power.
However, it clarified that any tax-related measures must be carefully studied by economic managers, particularly the Department of Finance (DOF), as well as Congress.
The DOE stressed that the decision to remove VAT does not fall under its authority, as it is ultimately up to economic managers and lawmakers—a process the agency respects.
Meanwhile, the department assured the public that while discussions on VAT continue, it remains committed to pursuing efforts to bring down electricity costs and will do everything it can to help Filipino consumers.
