DepEd targets historic career promotion for teachers this year

Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Sonny Angara is hopeful that the implementation of a “historic” career progression for public school teachers will be carried out this year.

He announced this after officiating the oath-taking ceremony of more than 500 promoted teachers under the Expanded Career Progression (ECP) System in Cavite.

According to Angara, based on their projections, before the end of 2026—and once the funds are released—the department will be able to promote around 100,000 teaching positions.

He said this is the first time that such a large number of teachers have been promoted and formally recognized.

To address promotion backlogs and ensure a stable workforce, DepEd has already processed new teaching, school leadership, guidance counseling, and administrative positions.

Meanwhile, the agency has hired more than 27,000 public school teachers and has also reclassified over 16,000 teachers nationwide.
